Position Summary:

The Production Scheduler I level outlines the responsibilities for an entry level or first time Production Scheduler.   Position.  The Production Scheduler I is designed to develop the basic skills and knowledge required to develop efficient and effective production schedules, while building the foundation needed to expand these skills as one progresses toward a Production Scheduler II classification.  This foundation includes knowledge of internal and external manufacturing processes, basic and intermediate PrintFlow set up and operation skills, an understanding of what constitutes and efficient schedule and the communication requirements of the Production Scheduler position.  Accountable for performing job responsibilities safely and with quality and on-time delivery services while minimizing waste and rework. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • At onset, spends a minimum of 20 hours in various aspects of manufacturing observing machine set ups and operation.
  • Internal and external training on basic set up and operation of PrintFlow Scheduling software
  • Able to access and understand information in Monarch pertaining to the Job Ticket
  • Coordinates all information required and utilizes PrintFlow software to create and distribute daily production schedules that maximize efficiencies while meeting client delivery requirements
  • Possesses basic understanding of concepts behind the algorithms that drive the PrintFlow Scheduling Engine
  • Attends the Daily Production meeting, coordinates proof approval dates with Client Services and interacts with Buyer to obtain information required to update Earliest Start Dates and appropriate Critical Dates in PrintFlow
  • Audits job tickets received from Planners and sends to PrintFlow to schedule 
  • Works with Planners to fully understand Monarch job plan and resolve any set up issues that may impact integration with PrintFlow
  • Understands manufacturing requirements and includes appropriate wait times between processes using delay option in PrintFlow Links
  • Conducts daily maintenance of Data Collection from Shop Floor and resolves data collection issues with appropriate department manager/supervisor
  • Communicates projected ready dates for outside vendors to Buyer
  • Schedules and communicates customer and sales approvals
  • Responds to changing customer requirements and production capabilities and adjusts schedule to accommodate
  • Advises Department Head for resolution of any scheduling conflicts or delivery dates in jeopardy and implements plan as directed
  • Provides clear communication to department managers and supervisors regarding schedule objectives
  • Monitors client delivery dates and resolves conflicts with Client Services and/or Production and elevates unresolved issues to the Dept. Head in a timely manner
  • Observes established safe working and housekeeping procedures; promptly corrects hazardous situations
  • Follows all standard operating procedures, work instructions, and ISO requirements
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

Position Qualifications:

Experience, Licenses, Certifications    

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; 2-year degree preferred
  • A minimum of 1 year Scheduling experience is preferred
  • Familiarity in manufacturing or print production within a printing environment
  • Must be familiar with production departments within a printing company
  • Experience with scheduling MIS software such as PrintFlow and Monarch is strongly desired

Work Environment

  • Generally works in an office setting
  • Occasionally works near moving equipment
  • Noise level in the work manufacturing area is moderately loud
  • May be advised or required to utilize personal protective equipment including, but not limited to: ear protection, eye protection, lifting equipment, safety shoes
  • Some exposure to ink and chemical fumes, and airborne particles such as paper dust and drying powder may occur
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision
