The Accrediting Council for Collegiate Graphic Communications, Inc. (ACCGC)

(ACCGC) is an independent body of industry and education professionals devoted to promoting excellence in graphic communications education. Accreditation granted by the ACCGC ensure tha tthe graphic communications progam in higher education meets or exceeds the established standards.

The Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAERF)

[[{"fid":"3430","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"GAERF","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":"GAERF"},"type":"media","link_text":null,"attributes":{"class":"media-element file-default"}}]] The Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAERF) is an organization whose mission is to advance knowledge and education in the field of graphic communications by supporting programs that prepare the workforce of the future.

PrintED

[[{"fid":"3431","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"PrintED","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":"PrintED"},"type":"media","link_text":null,"attributes":{"class":"media-element file-default"}}]] PrintED, administered by GAERF is a national accreditation program, based on industry standards, appropriate for secondary and post-secondary schools offering graphic communications curricula.  

The Graphic Communication Education Association (GCEA)

[[{"fid":"3432","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"GCEA","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":"GCEA"},"type":"media","link_text":null,"attributes":{"class":"media-element file-default"}}]] The Graphic Communication Education Association (GCEA, formerly International Graphic Arts Education Association (IGAEA)) is an association of educators in partnership with industry, dedicated to sharing theories, principles, techniques and processes relating to graphic communications and imaging technology. SGIA had a strong presence at this year’s 2014 PrintED National Teachers’ conference, which co-located with Envision Graphics 2014, the 89th annual IGAEA summer conference in Mansfield, Ohio. SGIA was able to connect with graphic communication instructors from across the country in order to educate teachers on today’s industry to include various print processes and technologies, as well as promote SGIA’s Educational resources. SGIA will attend these conferences in 2015 with California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA.

SkillsUSA

[[{"fid":"3433","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"Skills USA","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":"Skills USA"},"type":"media","link_text":null,"attributes":{"class":"media-element file-default"}}]] SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. They provide educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education (CTE) in the nation's classrooms. Participating in SkillsUSA Nationals for the second year in a row, SGIA recently helped oversee both the Screen Printing and Graphic Communications — Dye Sublimation contests for both secondary and post-secondary students. The competitions are designed for students to compete against one another demonstrating the entire printing process from preparation to the finished product and give students a head start in developing valuable professional skills to include communication, interpersonal abilities and time management. SGIA also presented various sessions at SkillsUSA University ranging from the latest and greatest in the specialty imaging industry to various digital technologies that have emerged for decorated apparel. All sessions emphasized SGIA’s focus on developing educational resources conducive to enlightening the specialty imaging industry. Johnny Shell, SGIA’s VP of Technical Services, was nominated for Chair of both the Screen Printing and Graphic Communications – Sublimation technical committees. 

USA Science & Engineering Festival (USASEF)

[[{"fid":"3434","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"USASEF","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":"USASEF"},"type":"media","link_text":null,"attributes":{"class":"media-element file-default"}}]] The USA Science & Engineering Festival (USASEF) is a national grassroots effort to advance STEM education and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.  This past April, SGIA showcased the specialty imaging industry at the Third USA Science & Engineering Festival (USASEF) at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC, where they hosted a screen printing demonstration. Hundreds of students, predominantly kindergarten through twelfth grade, were taught how to print their own T-shirts and were also introduced to the world of wide-format digital printing, the various pieces of equipment, and the different print processes and installation techniques. SGIA looks forward to returning to the 2016 USASEF to continue promoting the specialty imaging industry to both new and returning students!
