SGIA Attends Small Business Labor Safety Roundtable

On January 19, 2018, SGIA attended a Small Business Labor Safety Roundtable hosted by the Small Business Administration in Washington, D.C. The roundtable provided a forum for small business stakeholders to discuss the current labor regulatory issues. Douglas J. Kalinowski, Director of the Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs for OSHA gave an update on OSHA’s state compliance programs. OSHA has an on-site consultation program to assist small businesses with compliance before they get inspected. Some businesses may be hesitant to call in OSHA, however, so the Agency also partners with state programs to help small businesses. Charles Maresca, Director of Interagency Affairs for the SBA Office of Advocacy provided an update on Regional Regulatory Reform Roundtables that the office has been hosting with the goal of hearing recommendations from small businesses on regulatory review and reform. The electronic reporting rule, OSHA inspection policies, and the lockout tagout standard update were regulations that were raised for potential review during these roundtables.
