Transfer Express Wins 2018 SGIA Safety Recognition Program Award

Transfer Express has been presented with a 2018 Safety Recognition Program award from the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) for its yearlong efforts toward providing a safe workplace. In addition to surpassing the program’s minimum requirements in a range of specified areas, Transfer Express earned particular notice for its monthly safety committee meetings. As one of 18 winners out of 60 participating member companies, Transfer Express received a plaque and recognition on the SGIA website.

SGIA’s Safety Recognition Program helps members learn about, implement and track safety and health issues in their facilities. The program also assists companies in identifying their OSHA compliance obligations. It encourages participants’ awareness of safety concerns by awarding points for actions such as creating an emergency plan, holding employee safety training sessions, posting SGIA safety tips and conducting workplace inspections.

SGIA Safety Recognition Program awards are presented annually, with the three participating companies scoring the highest number of points receiving special note. Further details on taking part along with necessary OSHA and other forms and information are available by visiting sgia.org.

California Mandates Narcan for First Aid Kits in Workplaces

In what appears to be the first state to do so, on September 27, 2024, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed A.B 1976, the Occupational Safety And Health Standards : Aid Materials : Opioid Antagonists Act. The new law mandates that Naloxone Hydrochloride, commonly known as Narcan, or another United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved opioid antagonist, be included in workplace first aid kits.

Maryland Adopts Heat Illness and Prevention Regulation

Maryland joined the growing list of states adopting a heat stress standard to protect workers from heat illness. Other states with similar regulations in place include California, Minnesota, Oregon, and Washington while Nevada is in the final stages of adopting its own. The state’s adoption of an official heat standard comes as the federal government announced the public comment period for a potential nationwide standard in late August.

OSHA Releases Its Proposed Heat Illness Prevention Rule

In keeping with the accelerated pace to get as many regulations issued as possible before the November elections, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has released its much anticipated proposed heat illness prevention rule. Before a rule can become final and effective, agencies are required to follow a protocol which includes first issuing a proposed version of the rule so the public can understand the direction that the agency is moving and how it would like to structure a final rule.
