JOB SUMMARY
Directs, organizes, plans, and assigns all cutting department operations including cutting, trim cutting, marking, hot-press, fabric inspection, and bundling by performing the following duties personally or through assistant personnel. Responsible for the implementation of all departmental policies, practices, and procedures pertaining to cutting department personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve cutting room operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
- Prepares departmental budget and monitors expenditures of budgeted items.
- Determines quantity and type of material to be cut and cutting patterns or dies to be used, according to cutting orders and design specifications.
- Inspects fabric bolts for defects.
- Directs positioning of patterns or paper markers on cloth to minimize waste, and ensure that pattern and weave of parts match when assembled.
- Examines cut parts for conformance to outline, notches, and other markings on pattern.
- Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Maintains time, finished cut-order sheets, and production records.
- Records monthly roll fabric inventory and work-in-progress material.
- Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of supervisory and non-supervisory personnel. Carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policies, procedures, safety, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning assisting, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Management from four-year college or university; or three to five years of screen printing and/or digital imaging production management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong skills in work planning, scheduling, and must have good judgment of color, design, and printing quality.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations to printing jobs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes, toxic chemicals, and heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Some independent travel may be required.
