Image Assembler

JOB SUMMARY

Assembles photographic positives and negatives into a set of flats or composite positives that accurately represent the line art. Registers all elements properly for screen making, printing, and finishing. Works with vignettes, halftones, reverses, line copy, etc., and by performing the following duties personally.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives production order and film materials.
  • Checks to determine if all necessary films have been supplied.
  • Produces flats using manual or automated methods.
  • Assemble repeats, inserts, positives and negatives according to layout, instructions, or specifications.
  • Assemble gang-run sheets, using ingenuity for maximum economy of labor and material.
  • Establish and indicate color and run sequence on margin of each overlay.
  • Register color overlays and cut edges accurately.
  • Check sample against positives for correctness.
  • Rechecks layout against production order, job requirements, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Makes color-key proofs, Chromalins, or Matchprints when necessary.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Carries out conduct and leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policies, procedures, safety, and applicable laws.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong skills in work planning, scheduling, and must have good judgment of color design and printing quality.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standard situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, humid conditions, fumes, toxic chemicals, and heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Some independent travel is required.
