Standardizing Print Excellence in Challenging Environments
PRINTING United Alliance and Idealliance, the global leader in print and graphic communications standards, are proud to announce the release of the new Uncoated UV Print Dataset and ICC Profile, a groundbreaking resource tailored to standardize printing on uncoated paper using ultraviolet (UV) curable inks.
Uncoated substrates and UV inks print differently than conventional inks. The appearance of UV inks on uncoated paper is better than using conventional inks, but is not matched by an existing reference print condition. To provide a more accurate representation of UV print on uncoated paper, the Print Properties Committee (PPC) has developed a characterization dataset and ICC profile designed to align color expectations and optimize print performance in these environments through extensive testing. The PPC conducted a number of test runs, and analysis that resulted in the dataset and profile.
Print providers can now access a universal framework to ensure greater consistency, predictability, and quality control for uncoated UV printing unique from other existing applications and their standard reference print conditions.
Key Benefits of the Uncoated UV Print Dataset and Profile:
- Improved Predictability: Establishes reliable color benchmarks for uncoated substrates.
- Enhanced Consistency: Reduces color variability caused by substrate characteristics and UV curing.
- Streamlined Workflows: Aligns with existing standards and integrates seamlessly into color management systems to reduce waste and rework.
- Global Standardization: Aligns production across facilities, fostering collaboration and meeting G7® and ISO 12647 standards.

By using this profile, printers can confidently meet client demands for accurate color while mitigating the unique challenges inherent to uncoated UV printing. The new profile empowers print service providers to remain competitive and deliver superior results while streamlining processes and driving efficiency.
"This achievement underscores the PPC’s commitment to innovation and supporting the print industry's evolving needs," says Jordan Gorski, executive director of Idealliance, "We are thrilled to support the industry as leaders in color management and process control."
