ASDPT Welcomes 3, Presents Swormstedt Award

Fairfax, Virginia — The Academy of Screen and Digital Printing Technologies (ASDPT) inducted three new members on October 10, during the 2017 SGIA Expo in New Orleans — Bill Hood, Bill Hood Consulting; Debbie Thorp, Business Development Director, Global Inkjet Systems Ltd.; and Tim Quinn, Print Process Expert, Nazdar.

Founded in 1973 by the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association, ASDPT is an international body of experts whose members have distinguished themselves by their accomplishments and service to the industry.

ASDPT also honored Mark Coudray, Coudray Graphic Technologies, with the 2017 Dave Swormstedt, Sr., Memorial Award for the best technical article published in the previous year for his article, “The Fourth Disruption: Why Venture Capitalists are Eyeing Garment Decoration,” published by ST Media’s Screen Printing magazine in August/September 2016.

New ASDPT Members

Bill Hood, Bill Hood Consulting Bill Hood entered the screen printing industry through the family business, and has a Fine Art degree with a minor in Print Making, specifically screen printing, from Sam Houston University. He opened his first screen printing business while in university. Windmill Screenprinting (Huntsville, Texas) produced serigraphs and posters.

After university, Hood moved to Houston, Texas, where he opened Flat Rock Graphics, again specializing in graphic design and screen printing. In 1973, he relocated to Austin, Texas, where he founded Royal Tees Screenprinting. A prolific writer, Hood was Founder and Editor of Solutions Journal, the first online publication for the screen printing technologies and the School of Screen Printing. He has authored more than 50 books on screen printing and thousands of technical articles. Hood has also served as the Southwest Technical Representative for Stretch Devices, Inc., and Marketing Director and Screen Print Products manager of Graphic Solutions Group in Dallas.

Debbie Thorp, Business Development Director, Global Inkjet Systems Ltd. Debbie Thorp is Business Development Director at Global Inkjet Systems Ltd (GIS), a leading developer of RIP software, drivers, electronics and ink system components for industrial inkjet printheads.

She has spent more than 25 years in digital printing. In the late 1990s, Thorp was Head of Group Marketing at Xaar Plc, and then moved on to be Director of Business Development at AIP Ltd, a liquid toner technology development project. Before joining GIS, Thorp was Vice President, EMEA Operations at iTi, an inkjet integrator and materials deposition device manufacturer. Earlier in her career, Thorp spent over 10 years in senior positions at specialist digital printing consultancy companies BIS Strategic Decisions, IT Strategies and CAP Ventures (now InfoTrends).

Tim Quinn, Print Process Expert, Nazdar Tim Quinn, lead consultant for Nazdar, offers decades of experience in presenting innovative solutions to printers for a range of technical processes from prepress and workflow file automation to color control and print production analysis. He is certified for both G7 and G7 Process Control. Quinn has worked for Nazdar since 1997.

In 2011, he received the Idealliance Circle Award for his development of a major advancement in G7 calibration. Quinn’s theory of the neutrality of cyan, magenta and yellow printing at 100 percent and stacked on a process color image was a major factor in the success of neutral print density calibration.
