Fabric/Yard Goods Inspector

Job Summary
Responsible for inspecting finished or unfinished cloth for defects, using power-driven examining frame.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Obtains cloth bolt according to work order, and transports to inspection station
- Pulls fabric over rollers, down over inspection board, and wraps end around take-up beam
- Sets yardage clock at zero, and initiate roller movement
- Scans cloth as it passes over lighted examining frame for such defects as grease spots, mispicks, uneven selvage and color irregularities; marks defects with chalk or adhesive sticker
- May correct defects such as soil snubs or loose ends using steel pick., scissors, or cleaning solution
- Grades cloth according to written quality standards; counting number of picks per inch or yard, using pick counter
- Conducts wash-and-dry shrinkage test, weight test, and color fastness test reporting all quality variances
- Records information such as type of defect, cloth style, and yardage inspected and maintains job records as required
- Makes recommendations regarding maintenance of inspection and testing equipment
- Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Carries out conduct and leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policies, procedures, safety, and applicable laws.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to one-on-one and small group situations to management, outside resources, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standard situations.
