Fairfax, Virginia – SGIA member company Visual Impressions Inc. has become the 50th company to earn certification under the Sustainable Green Printing (SGP) Partnership. To achieve this certification, SGP requires a facility to set annual sustainability objectives, or goals.
“It’s a game-changer, as more and more businesses want to align themselves with companies that are committed to socially responsible and environmentally sustainable programs,” said Marshall Atkinson, chief operating officer at Visual Impressions Inc. “SGP Certification adds to our marketability, and demonstrates leadership in the apparel industry to both our existing and potential customers.”
“The Peer-to-Peer Network group was an invaluable resource — to have the opportunity to ask questions and talk different topics with someone who can walk you through a process was great,” added Atkinson. “Reading articles and watching videos doesn’t assist you the way real interaction can — this is a vital component of the program.”
SGP certification requires print facilities to develop and implement a formal program for sustainability that delivers value and results. Its criteria includes development of a sustainability management system and integration of best management practices in the following areas:
- The product Input materials used to produce products such as substrates, inks and coatings
- The process The manufacturing process involving press equipment and supporting technology
- The envelope The facility in its entirety, its energy consumption, employees and supporting activities.
