For Immediate Release May 15, 2013 Contact: Kat Thomas, SGIA 703.359.1360 kat@sgia.org Fairfax, Virginia – SGIA has introduced the CPSIA Compliance Strategy, an exclusive member-only benefit designed to assist in the creation of a framework for compliance with the requirements of standards set forth by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for children’s products, toys and child care articles. The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) of 2008 requires that all children’s products:
  • Comply with the lead and/or phthalate content limits, as applicable
  • Be tested for compliance by a CPSC-accepted laboratory
  • Have a written Children’s Product Certificate that provides evidence of the product’s compliance (issued by the manufacturer or importer)
  • Have permanent tracking information affixed to the product
“Even after five years, there is still quite a bit of confusion within the imaging industry regarding applicability of these requirements. By putting them all in one document, a company can walk through the program to determine what needs to be done,” said Marci Kinter, SGIA’s vice president for government and business information. SGIA’s CPSIA Compliance Strategy provides the stepping stones for the development of a written and procedural compliance strategy for facilities whose products are subject to CPSIA. This invaluable resource provides the necessary tools, as well as industry best practice regulations that can be implemented by any and all facilities. SGIA is committed to being the best resource for information about regulatory decisions that may impact your business. Sign up for First To Know updates and follow SGIA’s Advocacy Blog for what you need to know now about state and federal legislation and regulatory decisions.
