Fairfax, Virginia — Last week at SGIA Headquarters, the first-ever “Mastering Water-Based Ink Technologies” workshop explored the critical tools and techniques needed to incorporate water-based inks into a successful printing operation. “We’ve been learning a lot,” said first-time workshop attendee Corey Byers of Legacy Athletic. “It’s good to see how other professionals do things, and to learn from people with a lot of experience.” The sold-out workshop took place in SGIA’s state-of-the-art lab in Fairfax, Virginia, where Lon Winters (GraphicElephants.com), Beppe Quaglia (Quaglia Srl/Virus Inks), Jamie McCrae (Latitudes) and SGIA’s own Marci Kinter conducted two days of interactive training. Attendees explored water-based ink systems, press setup, proper printing techniques, preferred mesh, sustainability and more. “We have been using [water-based inks] for eight months now, and we still have a lot to learn,” said Monica Vrankin, another first-time attendee from Legacy Athletic. “This was a good way to reassure what we’re doing, and to complete the education process.” The next SGIA Workshop is just two months away — the sought-after Totally T-Shirts!
