For Immediate Release April 6, 2017 Contact: Kate Achelpohl, SGIA 703.359.1364 kate@sgia.org Fairfax, Virginia — The Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) introduces “SGIA Road Trip: Apparel Decorating for Insiders,” June 9–10, at The M&R Companies headquarters (Roselle, Illinois) outside Chicago. The workshop is sponsored by EasiWay Systems Inc, Fruit of the Loom and Rutland Plastic Technologies, Inc. “Taking SGIA workshops on the road brings us closer to printers, making it easier for them to attend,” said SGIA Vice President of Technical Services Johnny Shell, adding that the workshop falls on a Friday and Saturday to further reduce time spent away from the shop. Industry expert Charlie Taublieb, Taublieb Consulting, will lead the workshop. With more than 35 years in screen printing, Taublieb trains technical personnel, helps design plant layouts and provides state-of-the-art instruction in new procedures and techniques. On the agenda are demonstrations of the latest screen-making technologies (including computer-to-screen), hands-on experience with advanced printing techniques and a behind-the-scenes look at host company M&R’s manufacturing operations. The workshop also includes a site visit, demonstrations and dinner hosted by decorated merchandising superstar Culture Studio (Chicago). “The Road Trip format adds opportunity to convenience, because it gives attendees access to top-notch facilities,” Shell said. "M&R and Culture Studio are industry-leading operations. We’re very grateful to both of them for opening their doors to us for this workshop event." The workshop curriculum includes:
  • Advanced screen making techniques using the latest high-tech equipment
  • Press setup and registration
  • Critical factors for printing and curing today’s inks: plastisol, water-based, HSAs and special effects
  • Advanced printing techniques
“On-site at M&R and Culture Studio, attendees will get to see and experience the latest in apparel decorating technologies and techniques up close,” Shell said. “Add Charlie Taublieb to the mix and you’ve got learning on the leading edge.” Registration for SGIA Road Trip: Apparel Decorating for Insiders is $299 (25 percent discount for SGIA members).
