Summary:

A direct comparison between conventional electronic halftone screening and frequency modulated screening was accomplished using Agfa Balance Screening and Agfa CristalRaster screening. An image consisting of half 175 lpi Agfa Balance Screening and half 2400 CristalRaster was assembled and then run on a Heidelberg MOVP press. The results of the press run demonstrated that CristalRaster had a higher dot gain in the quarter tones and a greater tolerance for misregister, increased ink density and overexposure of the plates.
