Summary:

Color separation techniques show a trend towards simplified and cost saving systems. The direct screening technique is one example of this evolution. Agfa-Gevaert has developed a panchromatic, direct-positive photo-chemical system yielding halftone separation positives. Processing is done in a simple, inexpensive processor offering a short access time. After a survey of the main sensitometric properties the possibilities of tone reproduction control are discussed. The new process is suited for applications where a standardized procedure for color separation work for lith-offset printing is required.
