Summary:
A short summary is given of a two year (1969-1970) exploratory investigation into the web tension behavior of webfed newspaper presses, using analog and digital computer modeling techniques backed up by experimental measurements. Low and high frequency tension disturbances were examined and some potential methods of improving press runnability were discovered. The work described formed a starting point for a broadly based research program, currently being undertaken by the INCA-FIEJ Research Association, into web breaks and general stress-strain phenomena in newspaper presses.
