Summary:

This paper deals with the mechanism of the no-screen exposure technique commonly used in the production of halftone images on film. The sensitometric effect is demonstrated, showing the effect of various percentages of no-screen exposures on the basic screen characteristics. The mathematical relationship between per cent no-screen exposure and basic density range is developed and a nomograph for simplified computation is given. Some practical applications of this technology are proposed.
