Summary:

A study of paper surface properties is discussed in relation to color reproduction variables. Paper gloss and paper absorptivity differences are found to cause hue differences of primary color process inks, a reverse hue shift of secondary process colors, and changes in required mask strengths. A new trial Paper Surface Efficiency factor is found to approximately predict these, and also parallel a previously proposed Process Color Ink Efficiency factor.
