Summary:
A new system is described for pasting up in the graphic arts, departing from traditional hot wax adhesive. A pressure-sensitive coating is applied to the back of the material to be positioned. The coating device is basically a roller coater with the provision of hermetically sealing the unit automatically when not in use. The coating solutions can then be fairly volatile to achieve quick drying on application without the evaporation problems that would be experienced with an open system. Factors involving tack, slidability and peel strength are discussed. The roller coater may be used for application of lacquers and other coatings.
