This report is based on data provided by 106 participants in the midyear 2023 PRINTING United Alliance State of the Industry Survey whose primary business is commercial printing. Annual sales (all sources) range from less than $500,000 to more than $200 million. Seventy percent have diversified beyond commercial printing, primarily into graphic and sign (wide-format) production and package printing/converting.
Topics include how key performance metrics such as sales, prices, and pre-tax profitability trended through mid-2023; what concerns commercial printers most; expected growths rates for major commercial printing products such as direct mail, retail graphics, and labels/decals/tags through 2025; what key leading business indicators say about future business conditions; how early adopters are using artificial intelligence; and tools to support profitable diversification.
