A control system should meet the following requirements: 1. Use all the information collected. 2. Display it in a meaningful pattern, suggesting the direction and amount of corrective action to be taken. 3. Be sensitive enough to detect changes in the process level before they are visually apparent. 4. Be simple enough to be maintained by the pressman. 5. Relate to the appearance of significant quality features. 6. Prove a permanent record of events during the pressrun. 7. Generate information that can be used to improve the process. Control charts appear capable of meeting these requirements if the number of quality factors to be monitored can be reduced by making some basic assumptions about the process.
