Summary:
Ink transfer studies at the Lithographic Technical Foundation during 1958, dealt with exploratory research into the mechanism by which ink transfers to paper. The experimental data obtained thus far, indicates that the differences between coated and uncoated papers are sufficiently large to require different research techniques. Among the properties that apparently determine ink transfer to uncoated paper are smoothness and porosity. Methods to separate these variables for individual consideration were studied. Further improvements in the equipment and in the techniques used for the study were made. Also experimental evidence of the satisfactory frequency response of the transducer used in the study was obtained.
