Summary:

Large presses offer better print quality and color registration than small presses or duplicators. Qualitative reasons are usually given for this better quality. i.e. size. cost and rigid construction. But the better quality can be shown to be inherent by a mathematical analysis of roller velocities in the nip of the printing cylinders as functions of the sizes and interference of the cylinders. The slippage between cylinders decreases as the cylinder diameter increases and interference between cylinders decreases. The slippage between the cylinders causes prints to smear and the degree of slippage determines print quality and color registration capability.
