Electrostatic Printing: The Need for Better Technical Understanding.

Despite recent advances in electrostatic printing, more technical data and a better understanding of the process is needed. Before steady and rapid progress can be made in this field, fundamental electrostatic technology will need to be improved by a good theoretical model and analytical tools. This paper presents a survey of some of the measuring techniques utilized in electrostatic printing to date, and discusses some of the theoretical models that have been proposed. Experimental evidence is presented that in part supports some of the theoretical models but yet offers evidence that contradictions still exist in the hypothetical models.
