Graininess in Lithographic Prints.

Graininess, like tone and color reproduction, sharpness, and detail, is a subjective impression experienced by the observer when viewing a lithographic print. Improvement of quality in lithography requires a better understanding of graininess. For this reason, it has been included in the image quality studies at LTF. Some of the physical features of the print which lead to the graininess impression and their sources are discussed. Also, a method for evaluating the objective aspects of graininess, using a microdensitometer trace, is described.
