Summary:
The printing development program at Marathon has devised a means of producing contact screens for special effects. The aim is to produce negatives of predetermined characteristics to suit special printing requirements. The method of making screens is as follows: a fine line image of fluctuating intensity is projected on to a moving strip of film which, after processing becomes the master strip. This strip is then printed in near contact on to a moving sheet of film in two passes, the second at right angles to the first. This sheet of film, processed with a suitable color-coupler, forms a magenta contact screen which is used in the normal way.
