Summary:
Projection platemaking is the production of printing plates by optical enlargement of miniature film images. The projection may be made using either ultraviolet or visible light. One may produce either a plate directly or an intermediate image carrier which is subsequently used to produce the plate. This paper describes many of the functional characteristics in projection platemaking including the principal economic factors the various engineering approaches and the technical limitations of the method. A typical design is examined. Illustrative examples are drawn from existing and conceptual projection platemaking systems.
