Summary:
This paper reviews the physical and chemical mechanisms involved in the dark reaction of bichromated protinaceous colloids. It discusses various means which have been used in the past to delay this dark reaction. It then describes, with experimental evidence, an inhibitor which has been developed by A. Breschi & Co. in Italy. The experiments described show that this inhibitor successfully delays dark reaction for periods of up to three weeks at ambient temperatures without significantly reducing the sensitivity of the carbon tissues.
