Summary:
Cost-effective hardware and software accessories have been developed which transform a video display into a soft-proofing system. The accessories make system calibration highly automatic and provide the accuracy needed to support remote, networked proofing applications. The latter property is manifest in results of an instrumental, colorimetric analysis. Sources of color error are identified and analyzed quantitatively. They are compared to color errors associated with primarily software-driven calibration methods based on subjective judgments. The latter do not provide the accuracy needed for network applications.
