Summary:

Inline printing on packaging is becoming an important factor due to market demands for shorter product series and flexibility in production. Print speed, setup time and print quality are examples of important parameters to consider assuring high productivity in the printing process. This paper will identify and analyze production-related factors that characterize productivity in inkjet printing through studies on high-speed inkjet printing. Typical production lines are studied in parallel to characterize demands from the packing machines as well as other related factors. This paper discusses whether the characteristics of the identified factors for inkjet printing work in conjunction with the current production lines. The results indicate that inkjet is an interesting alternative for inline printing, but that the reliability of the inkjet unit is of crucial importance.
