Summary:

Image stability on press has been a prime consideration for many years. This quest has renewed interest in the color separation technique of using black ink in place of the Chromatic inks both neutral tones and tertiary colors. Until now, this technique has been referred to as Programmed and Complementary Colors Reduction and more recently Grey Component Replacement. This alternative method of reproduction is explained in detail utilizing standardized procedures in Hell scanners, the use of the enhanced color computer for the Chromagraph 399ER, and by digital color transformation in the Chromacon system.
