Summary:
A process is disclosed for preparing a photographic prepress (or off-press) proof of an original subject using a color print paper wherein dyes of the print paper are brought into substantial color compliance with the yellow, cyan, and magenta process inks to be used in a lithographic reproduction of the original. The yellow, magenta, and cyan tonal ranges of the proof image are extended to closely match that of the final printed product. The process uses color paper like Kodak Ektacolor, or similar papers by 3M and Fuji Photo Film Company. It utilizes combinations of photographic negatives and positives. By blending dye coupler dyes which are insoluble with dye transfer dyes which are soluble, it can produce hues which match process colors, including SWOP process inks. The procedure renders color proofs with a full dot gain in tones to match dot gain in midtones and shadows typical of the press print. The T.M. prepress proofs are intended not only for in-plant usage but also for presentation to customers for approval.
