Pages: 10

Summary:

A threefold purpose in addressing TAGA by the chairman of the ANSI Image Technology Standards Board is presented: to assess the need for standardization, to identify existing standards, and to acknowledge the fast-moving interrelated technologies in the graphic arts that are driving the industry toward new and greater standards needs. A common background to the process of standardization is established. A comparison is made with the level of standards in the motion picture industry. The suggestion is made that the industry form a national standards committee for itself, functioning as an accredited ANSI committee. The umbrella group would comprise of such segments as SWOP, TAPPI, GTA, GATF and ANPA. Each group would be representing standards questions falling within its own purview or expertise. Support would come from a secretariat. ANSI and its standards procedures would be the base for the umbrella.
