The Dimensional Stability and Register Stability of Polyester Printing Plates

Summary:

The dimensional stability and register stability of Supermaster polyester printing plates of several thicknesses was studied using the FOGRA nonius measuring strip (FNM). Although all polyester plates studied show a considerable stretch during mounting and tensioning on the press, only very little additional stretching occurs during printing. It is shown that multi-colour work can be carried out with a register stability that is very close to what is achievable with aluminum plates. The printer only needs to take a few precautions. However, in order to get a perfect and uniform register from the start, all plates have to be mounted and tensioned on the press with extreme care. Spray mounting of the plates allows the printer to have much less stretch during mounting and tensioning, as well as to have virtually no stretch during printing. He is able therefore to get a good and uniform register from the start more easily and to keep this register stable without any problem.
