Summary:
In Gravure printing, the destruction of chrome plating in the form of banding is sporadic and destructive. While several factors are involved in this phenomenon, physico-chemical properties of the ink such as particle size, the Electrokinetic Sonic Amplitude (ESA) and conductivity seem to play a major role. Maximizing ESA offers a solution to this problem. While smaller particles are less abrasive, maximizing ESA corresponds to smaller particles with low conductivities in solvent based gravure inks.
