Summary:
A printed area which consists of 8 screen dots has been investigated. The optical response from each one of these dots has been recorded and analyzed. The extension of ink pigments has been determined by analytical techniques. The basis weight of the paper structure behind the printed dots has been determined. It has been found that the optical dot gain is about 25% smaller when printer on the thinner paper structure than when printed on the thicker paper structure. The very local paper properties therefor seems to influence this phenomenon.
