Summary:
A survey of the literature and lithographic art has been made to determine the present state of development with regard to the phenomenon of greasing. Work has been carried on to correlate the magnitude of the greasing property of lithographic inks as exhibited on a press, with the behavior of the inks in several laboratory tests. No one test has been found completely successful but enough trends have been observed to form a basis for a proposed theory of the mechanism of greasing. On the basis of this theory it has been found possible to correlate all the causes of greasing which have been reported in the literature or have been known to the trade. Present work is progressing on the study of certain specific agents, such as Sotex N, with respect to their effect on the greasing tendency of inks.
