Summary:

A common parameter of evaluation for printing plates, photographic films, and lenses is resolution. The limit of resolution with the common bar-type test object is often an indecisive point. The agreement between observers is poor. RIT has developed an Alphanumeric Resolution Test Object which consists of random arrays of alphanumeric characters ranging in size from 1 line/mm to 18 lines/mm. This target allows the observer to be scored on his ability to resolve the characters, eliminating disagreement about the limit of resolution of any given photo-optical system.
