Summary:

An empirical technique for viscometric characterization of highly pigmented bank note inks employs the HBT model of the Brookfield Viscometer to produce torque 1 2 versus rpm 1 2 curves which incorporate the time effects. This paper reports on the precision and the sensitivity of this technique and the characteristic features of families of curves obtained by varying different parameters (age, pigment concentration, degree of dispersion, and temperature). Correlation between the data obtained and press performance is discussed.
