SGIA Supports the Next Generation of Print (Part 1)

SkillsUSA is a national membership association serving college, high school and middle school students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations. It’s a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to develop a skilled workforce.

 
SkillsUSA Graphic Imaging ParticipantsEach year, SkillsUSA hosts the National Leadership and Skills Conference Championships, which features hands-on competitions that test students’ skills in one of over 100 competitions. The 2018 event was hosted in Louisville, Kentucky, where thousands of students, teachers and business partners gathered to celebrate and showcase a series of technical and educational achievements.

SGIA serves as the printing industry representative and coordinates the Screen Printing Technology and Graphic Imaging-Sublimation competitions. The committees that organize the competition develop plans to test the most relevant industry practices, where educators and students can employ technology and practices to demonstrate their abilities in a chosen field.

More than 40 students competed in the two competitions coordinated by SGIA, and a group of winners was chosen from the outstanding group of competitors. The winners include:

U.S. International Trade Commission Approves Tariffs Targeting Aluminum Lithographic Printing Plates from China and Japan

On October 22, 2024, the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) determined that a U.S. industry is materially injured by imports of aluminum lithographic printing plates from China and Japan. The U.S. Department of Commerce determined that the printing plates are being sold at less than fair value and subsidized by the government of the People’s Republic of China.
