PRINTING United Alliance is grateful to serve its members who make such significant impacts on the printing industry. Through our Member Spotlights, we continue to recognize our members, and help our community get to know their peers better, both professionally and personally. The following is a Q&A with Alliance member Rusty Dycus, president of Olde School Marketing in Berryville, Arkansas.
Can you please provide a brief history/background on your company?
Olde School Marketing was established in 2019, specializing in handwritten direct mail, while also serving as a full-service marketing agency. We have 180 employees, and our primary products include direct mail, social media marketing, email marketing, AI development, and fractional CMO services. All Companies need our services in some shape or form. We are a bit of a jack of all kinds of company, we just so happen to specialize in direct mail.
How and when did you enter the printing industry?
I have personally been in the printing industry since 1994. I started out in the Apparel imprinting business and worked in this field most of my life. In 2019 I started the Direct Mail and Marketing company.
What would you say have been your company’s biggest accomplishments and challenges?
Launching a new marketing agency in the middle of COVID-19 has been a real accomplishment and challenge all at the same time. We have seen massive roller coaster events in our short time as a company. Everything from inflation, to staffing problems, to getting parts and COGS into a rural American town is not an easy feat. But we have made it and are growing every day.
What are future goals for your operation (where do you see your company headed in five years)?
In 2024, our company will double in growth. In five years we will hit $20 million plus in revenue and 10 times our customer acquisition.
Why did you decide to join the Alliance and what resources do you plan to utilize through your membership?
We joined the Alliance for the advertising opportunities, lead generation, and to head to the convention [PRINTING United Expo] in October to learn more about what we don’t know in the print industry. Honestly, we are probably going to use everything the company has to offer. We need to look at this membership as your customer but also, we are your customer and your customer’s customer. It’s an ideal situation for both of us.
What activities/hobbies do you enjoy in your free time?
My free time is usually spent building new houses and commercial properties, and my hobby is general contracting of my own buildings. I also game a little in the late evenings to release some stress and I’m constantly learning from books, magazines, and videos. I am a full-time dad to five great kiddos and two grandchildren, ranging from 27 years old, to my newly adopted 2-year-old. I love spending time raising and playing with my family.
