Silicone Edge Graphics (SEG) are printed fabric graphics that are ideal for a variety of applications with extrusion based displays, or displays featuring channel bar applications. SEG graphics feature silicone edge beading attached to one or more edges of the printed graphic, enabling it to push easily into an extrusion channel for a seamless display.
SEG are ideal for use with a multitude of different display products and for use with backlit LED illuminated and non-illuminated dye-sublimated fabric graphics. There are several benefits to choosing a portable, custom or custom modular display featuring silicone edge graphics. The extrusion-based frames or perimeter channel bars that hold SEG graphics provide a seamless appearance for impressive messaging.

Silicone edge graphics are printed using the standard dye-sublimation and UV print process however, not every fabric type is compatible with SEG beading. When it comes to producing SEG graphics, the print substrate and ink combination are critical. For example, pairing certain vinyls and canvas fabrics with flexible LED/UV ink allows SEG graphics to be easily folded and stored. Working with a flexible ink can also prevent cracking and will reduce the wear and tear around the perimeter where the silicone edge is typically attached to the graphic. When selecting a dye-sublimation fabric, it is important to find a material with some stretch to allow for easy installation and to keep the graphic taut in the frame system. SEG graphics produced on fabrics without any stretch may fit poorly on the frame and sag after multiple uses.
When working with different substrates and silicone beadings, it is necessary to test the fit in the specific extrusion system or channel bar that is used with the graphic. Silicone beading is available in many different sizes and thicknesses. It is critical that the graphic and silicone beading fit into the extrusion easily without resistance to prevent damage to the graphic.
The material’s fiber thickness, opacity, stretch and shrink aspects should all be evaluated and carefully tested to ensure the highest quality finished product for SEG applications.
Push-fit fabric graphics slide into channels on the frame to create a clean and continuous appearance from edge to edge, and graphics hide the hardware almost entirely. The frame remains a firm foundation for an eye-catching display, while the printed graphics clearly display messaging and branding. Many fabric structures such as funnels, tablet and monitor kiosks and counters also feature SEG graphics to create messaging that attracts the eye and allows for easy setup. The resulting displays are durable and stand up to hours of use on a show floor or in retail environments.
Application and removal of graphics is easy. First push the SEG bead into each corner of the frame with your thumb and then push the bead into the middle of the run and work your way around the perimeter until all beading is pushed in properly. Washing hands or using gloves is a good idea to avoid getting marks on the graphic. And removal is as simple as pulling the tab located on the graphic and gently pull it from the frame.
For storage of SEG graphics it is best to fold them with the graphic facing inward and store in a sealable plastic bag. Spot clean graphics by wiping with a damp white cloth. If washing becomes necessary, use a commercial size front-loading Washington machine, gentle cycle with cool water and line dry flat. Dry cleaning is not recommended to prevent shrinkage.
