Our pressroom has sheetfed offset, toner, and web-fed inkjet presses. How can we accurately determine which press would be most cost-efficient to print our short and medium run length jobs?

Increases in speed and lower operating costs of digital presses are making rules-of-thumb about the cost cut-off between conventional and digital printing less accurate. To truly know the answer you'll need to evaluate the production costs by press for each job. Printing Industries of America has just released an updated version of our PrintAS Cost Calculator that makes it easier to do this. The Excel file allows companies to enter the costs for a specific job based on each press being considered and then displays the costs for various quantities, clearly showing the most cost-effective choice. The Cost Calculator is available to PIA members to download at: https://www.printing.org/resources/cost-calculator.
