GATF Frequency Modulated Acutance Guide

This paper describes a new quality control device designed to measure the attribute of sharpness in imaging systems including printing presses. The paper also describes a mathematical index of sharpness that can be calculated from densitometer measurements made from the imaged target. A brief literature review of technical work related to sharpness and resolution forms the background for this report. The value of the sharpness gauge with relation to image quality is discussed. Experimental results using the new target are given.
